Obituary of Leona Schritt

Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On August 19, 1944 Leona was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of 2 daughters born to Mildred and Oscar Ohreen. Leona was married to Arthur Schritt from 1961 to 1979. Together they had three children and many adventures travelling across B.C, Alberta and Texas. It was a good thing she loved to drive because there certainly was a lot of that during their time together. In 1988, Leona moved to Fort McMurray to be closer to her grandchildren and to help baby sit them. It was then that she began her babysitting career watching neighborhood children with her mom. Together they were known as grandma. Her patience, love and kindness were evident in the pride she took in helping to raise many a child. Leona was a quiet and caring woman who had a deep love for her family. This didn't mean that people could walk over her. When she believed in something or thought one of her family were threatened, she was prepared to face the devil. Her family especially knew that they might as well give up when they heard the roar of the lion and the stomping of her footsteps because she was standing her ground. Although not affiliated with a specific church or religion her love for the Lord and faith in God was strong and unwavering. She did not have a flashy lifestyle and spent many an hour talking with God reading her bible, listening to her CD's of prayer and praise to the Lord. This is where she found her peace. Left to cherish fond memories of Leona are her children, Faith (Tim) Wall, Josh (Mary) Schritt, Karla (Calvin) Schritt; grandchildren, Drew (Chelsea), Kayleigh (Tyson), and Dallas Wall, Skylar Sampson, Brittany and Trent Hutchings; great grandchildren, Miyah and Hope Wall; sister Eileen Jackson, nephews, Rocky, Randy, Wayne and Guy Jackson; niece, Shannon Jackson; and Aunt Midge. She is predeceased by both parents and stepfather. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Megli officiating. Interment will follow in the New Norway Cemetery.
