Vernon Alfred Sigalet of Camrose, formerly of Ferintosh, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Vernon Alfred Sigalet was born to John and Kathleen Sigalet on April 7, 1929 in a small log cabin on the homestead in Ferintosh, Alberta. He had one younger sister Violet. Vernon completed his schooling up to Grade 11 in Ferintosh at which time he concentrated on helping farm the land with his father. He married Patricia Morgan in April of 1958 and to their union were three children Morris, Cindy, and Bradley. Vernon remained on the homestead farming and driving school bus until March 1965 when the family moved to Camrose. It was then that Vernon started driving milk tankers and working in the processing plant for NADP. Vernon retired after 27 years of service. Over the years he enjoyed playing fastball, darts and curling. Vern and the teams he curled with did well winning numerous bonspiels including curling the perfect 8 ender in 1976. He and his sons enjoyed duck hunting and ice fishing. Other favourite hobbies included woodworking, lapidary and knitting curling sweaters for himself and his children. During his retirement years he became very interested in cooking collecting every recipe he could get his hands on and was very proud of his gardening abilities in growing many tomatoes in his back yard. Vernon joined the Loyal Order of the Moose in 1981. He was very involved with the organization and was always there to lend a hand carving up turkeys or roast beef and flipping pancakes. He worked his way up the ranks to earn the ultimate Honour of Pilgrim Degree in May of 2006. Vern enjoyed camping with the family in B.C. and in the later years he and Pat travelled to Hawaii numerous times as it was one of their favourite destinations. He completed a few lifelong dreams with the help of his family by doing an Alaskan Cruise and travelling to Sweden and Hiiumaa , Estonia to trace his family Swedish roots. Vernon passed away November 1, 2014 at St Mary's Hospital, Camrose, Alberta at the age of 85 years. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia; parents John and Kathleen; sister Violet; sister-in-law Shirley; and brothers-in-law William and Henry. He leaves to mourn his sons Morris (Denise) and Bradley (Amanda); daughter Cindy; grandchildren Lisa (James) and Sean; step-grandchildren Meredith, Jenna and Kyle; and three step-great grandchildren. As well brother and sister-in-law Allen and Pearl; three nieces; one nephew; numerous cousins and many great friends. The family are very grateful to the help provided to Vernon over the years by his great neighbours Keith and Jacquie Badry and long time friends Marilyn and Ben Gagnon. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Liz Carter-Morgan officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
