Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Elizabeth Cloarec was born September 14, 1935, in Viking, Alberta to Nick and Evelyn Umrysh. She passed away at Points West Living in Stettler on October 26, 2014, at the age of 79. Marie was raised in a small Ukrainian settlement called Kopernick. Her early years were spent helping out on the farm until moving into Camrose in 1947 when her father Nick began working for CNR. Marie graduated from Camrose High School in 1953. She worked at Price's bakery and later, Imperial Oil. She was transferred to Red Deer briefly, then returned to Camrose and worked at CFCW writing commercials. She was then employed by Dr. Joseph Cloarec who would become her husband eight years later. Joe and Marie were married January 20, 1969. They had three children: Michelle, Marguerite and Mark. Marie was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. In her early years, Marie loved to attend Halloween parties and always had fun dressing up. She also enjoyed sports such as baseball, golf and was an avid bowler for many years. She had many adventures traveling to Hawaii, Great Falls and Las Vegas with friends. She loved going to country-dances and was a wonderful dancer. She always had her dance card full! She was a talented self-taught, musician and enjoyed playing the piano, guitar and auto-harp. Marie had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines in her early years, and with her prayer group at church. She was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for herself and her children. Marie always had luck on her side, winning the Lotto 6-49 in 1989. She loved animals and had a soft spot in her heart for the many cats that became part of her family over the years and for Marguerite's dog, Hannah. She played many games of scrabble, Yahtzee and crib and loved to laugh. Marie always looked forward to her Saturday night dinners with Jen, Dennis and Susan followed by many games of Yahtzee. She also enjoyed watching her son Mark play hockey and fastball. Marie had a strong faith, and supported many charities locally and abroad over the years with her husband Joe. Marie was predeceased by her father Nick; mother Evelyn; husband Joe; stepson John; brother Orest; and Dan Chomlak. She leaves to mourn three children: Michelle (David), Marguerite (Rob), Mark (Stacey); three siblings: Jen, Elsie (Dan), Dennis (Susan); four grand children: Grace, Madelyn, Luke and Joseph; nieces, nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be greatly missed. A Prayer Vigil was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Camrose with Rev. Don Stein as celebrant.
