Gwen was born to Alexander and Margit Olson on November 20, 1934 in Camrose, AB. Her childhood was spent between the areas of Camrose and Wetaskiwin, where she attended Sparling and Baldenstein schools. Upon completion of her Commercial Certificate at Camrose Lutheran College in 1953 she began work as a bookkeeper at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose, AB. Gwen married the love of her life, John "Jack" Hagen of Bawlf, AB on April 26, 1958. Born to this devoted union were two sons and one daughter. Gwen enjoyed life on the farm and was an active member of the Bawlf Lutheran Church: she was a church treasurer and an involved LCW member. Gwen was the church pianist for 37 years. Her various interests included gardening, giving piano lessons, sewing, needlework and painting, among other crafts. She treasured her visits with family and friends, especially her afternoon conversation with Doris. Gwen moved in to Camrose in 1998 and enjoyed her home there until being hospitalized the last few days of her life. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1997, mother in 1988 and father in 1996. She leaves behind her children Alex (Pat), Doug (Carol) and Val; her five grandchildren: Brandon, David, Christy, Alison, Brenda, and one great-grandson Jordan; her sister Sonja (Don) Uglem, and brothers Marvin (Yvonne) Olson, and Bradley (Lorraine) Olson, her sister-in-law Norine Norheim, brother-in-law Lloyd (Pat) Hagen, her aunt Grace Urdahl, numerous nephews and nieces and many dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services were held on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m from the Bawlf Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Interment will take place in the Bawlf Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
