Obituary of Joel Cassady

Please share a memory of Joel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joel Harvey Cassady of Camrose passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the age of 68 years. Joel was born in Camrose on September 24, 1945 to parents Harry and Sylvia Cassady. Joel had fond memories with his busy household of four brothers and two sisters. There are so many stories of his younger years but most are too mischievous and cannot be told :) Joel loved classic vehicles and could always name the year and model. Joel married Constance on June 17, 1967 and had two children, Jay and Tammy. He thrived with his businesses of Cassady's Lock & Key, Windwood Signs and Cassady's Bucket & Auger Truck Service. Joel was an active member in the Camrose Fire Department for 35 years, Ducks Unlimited, the Rotary Club and planned Stars Gala Events. In recent years, he loved participating in building and racing the "Rapid Response" 1948 International KB-1 Pickup 100-footer Dragster. Joel's passions included travelling to Alaska and cruising to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal, marshalling at golf events (Air Canada Championship in Vancouver, BC, The Bob Hope Classic in Palm Springs, CA and AT&T in Pebble Beach, CA), golfing including the annual Whitefish, Montana trip, deer hunting at the ManCave, target shooting at Jay's acreage, spending time with his grandchildren and with friends and especially family get-togethers and Cassady holiday traditions set by Sylvia. Joel was so well known in the Camrose community and after he retired from the Locksmith business, the phone would ring if someone was locked out of their home or car and he would go with no question and not charge a cent. Left to cherish Joel's memory are his wife Constance; son Jay (Linda); daughter Tammy (Chris); four precious grandchildren Jaylin, Katrina, Sieanna and Brady; brothers Noel (Wendy), Jack (Patricia), Greg (Ann), Michael (Jenny and Little Sylvia) and sister Connie. Joel was predeceased by his parents Harry and Sylvia and his sister Ronnine. The day after Joel passed was the 26th Annual Brother's Tournament in Camrose...Joel would have been looking down on them and smiling :) We would like to thank all of the friends and family that came to visit Joel at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose (especially Randy Haugen for all the daily help for Constance), Home Care, all the nurses and Doctor's (especially Dr. Slabbert and Laurel). A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from the Camrose United Church with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Ducks Unlimited, S.T.A.R.S., or to the Camrose Fire Department.
