Obituary of John "Gordon" Scott

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon Scott was born on October 10, 1928 in Camrose Alberta to proud parents John and Sarah Scott. Gordon spent his early years in the Avonroy District and received his first year of schooling in the Avonroy school. In 1934 the family moved to their new home in the Swea District north of Camrose, where Gordon resided for the rest of his life. Here Gordon farmed with his parents until his mother's passing in 1948. Gordon met the love of his life, Gwen, in December of 1948 at the old Wild Rose arena in Camrose. Two years later they were married, on November 5, 1950. To this union two boys were born in 1959 and 1966, their pride and joy. Together they continued to run the family farm while Dad embarked on his second career of drilling and servicing water wells. By the time Dad retired from drilling in 1984, he had either drilled or serviced virtually every water well within fifty miles of Camrose, and his knowledge of the area's ground water resources was known and respected throughout the region. Among his other varied occupations, Dad drove school bus from 1952-1964, worked for the County of Camrose as a weed inspector and warble control officer, ran a successful laying hen operation, and delivered rural mail out of the Camrose Post office for thirty years. Dad's joys in life were hunting, fishing, camping and being with his family. He always had a faculty of putting other's needs before his own, especially when it came to his family. Dad will always be best known for his ever-present sense of humour. Despite many physical hardships later in life, he would always respond when asked how he was doing with his typical "Oh, I'm just fine!" Gordon passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of December 25, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen, sons Terry (Cindy) and Tracy (Darla), three wonderful grandsons, Bradley (Fran and Daniel), Jeffrey (Brittany) and David (Jenna), his sisters Jean and Sybil (Albert), numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment took place in the Bittern Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart & Stroke Function Clinic at St. Mary's or The Lung Association, or the charity of one's choice.
