Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald Alphonse Heidt was born in Scott, Saskatchewan on July 21, 1942 to Joseph and Magdalena Heidt. He passed away in Camrose, Alberta on July 14, 2014 after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. Don moved with his family to Lacombe when he was two years old, and after a brief stay moved to Warburg, Alberta where he started school. At the age of nine and the oldest of six children, Don and the family made the move to the Lake Bend District south of Bashaw, where he would spend the majority of his life. When he was 16 years old he started farming with his father fulltime and in 1974 purchased the farm where he stayed until 2012 when he moved to Camrose. Don was happiest working on the farm whether it was out in the field or welding up his latest invention to make work on the farm more efficient. He didn't take many breaks from the farm but when possible, he enjoyed camping and the outdoors with his family. Don is survived by his two daughters Victoria Heidt of Stettler and Sheila Heidt of Red Deer; his common-law wife Eva Cappis of Camrose, and her son Rick Quast of Ponoka; brothers Vern (Cheryl) Heidt of Three Hills, and Terry (Glenda) Heidt of Red Deer; sisters Valerie Boode (Jim Spensley) of Victoria, B.C. and Arlene (Ralph) Oberg of Bashaw; and brother-in-law Lorne Haakonson of Palm Desert, CA. Don was predeceased by both parents and one sister Anita Haakonson. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Bashaw with Rev. Don Ihekwoaba officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Bashaw Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Combines for Cures, or to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District.
