Obituary of Janice Sheets

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janice Sheets of Camrose, formerly of Kelsey passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the age of 83 years. Janice Emma Sheets was born on August 24, 1930 to Rene and Marie VanHullebush at North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She was the second youngest in a family of seven children who lived in a two storey log house. Janice enjoyed riding her horse each day to the one room school house (Nolin) just down the road. She worked hard raking the farm yard daily to make sure it was up to her dad's specifications. She enjoyed the typical farm lifestyle of feeding animals, tending garden and took pleasure in the simple things life had to offer. Her family frequently invited pilots and officers over for supper from the near- by air force base. This provided her with an opportunity to begin a stamp collection. She also liked to cut and save articles out of the "Country Girl" magazine and followed the royal family through a scrapbook she created. Janice also spent a lot of time helping her older sister Julienne cook and clean house for her 11 children. Some of her nieces and nephews were very close to her own age. When Janice was old enough she moved into an apartment in town and was a medical records clerk for the local hospital. It was during this time she met her true love Lyle Sheets. He was in the area working on an oil rig. He set eyes on Janice and knew instantly that was the girl he was going to marry. And he did. And it worked for a wonderful 56 years until Lyle's passing. After getting married Janice moved to Lyle's family farm in 1955 for a year and then moved to Kelsey where her and Lyle eventually made their home on an acreage just adjacent to the town site. Janice was very active in the local curling club, the birthday club and the CWL. She worked tirelessly as the community hall caretaker alongside Lyle for close to six decades. On numerous occasions she served hot food at the curling rink, manned the booth at softball sports days and provided lunch for functions at the hall. Janice loved gardening and growing flowers and spent many hours in her yard. Janice and Lyle had two children, Janine and Jerry. It was always very important to Janice that birthdays and other special celebrations took place on the actual day they were supposed to. She worked tirelessly to make sure that happened for everyone. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and made their home a welcome place for guests. The coffee was always on. Janice was head of housekeeping at the Daysland Hospital for several years. Cleaning was just part of her personality. Her hous was always in order; she even vacuumed the garage regularly. Janice never asked for anything for herself and was happiest when she was doing something for others. She had a warm gentle spirit and gave out smiles freely. Janice was predeceased by her mother and father, two sisters (Yvonne and Julienne) and her husband Lyle. She is survived by her daughter Janine (Ken Klevgaard), her son Jerry, grandchildren Martin (Jen) Klevgaard, Kate Klevgaard and Annette Klevgaard; brothers Raymond (Jean) VanHullebush and Gus (Terry) VanHullebush; and sisters Sherry Kellam and Alice Mills. Your prayers, comfort and support are greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged. Spend each day showing kindness to others just as Janice would have. A prayer vigil was held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel (4817 51 Ave Camrose, AB).
