Viola Marselle McLeod of Camrose, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the age of 95 years. Viola McLeod was born on January 6, 1919 on a farm near Ohaton, Alberta. Her parents Adolf and Gilma Saby (Nelson) raised Viola along with three sisters and two brothers on different farms in the area. She attended Acme and Hampton Schools in the Bawlf and Ohaton area graduating from Camrose High School in 1939. She married Anton Mikasko in 1940, and born to this union were two daughters, Marlene and Donna, and two sons, Douglas and Glen. Tony and Viola initially lived and worked in Round Hill where their first daughter Marlene was born. Tony was a gunner during WW2 in the Canadian Armed Forces between 1941 and 1945. He returned home to Round Hill as a coal miner, during which time Donna was born. In 1950, he completed a course in barbering and moved his family to Camrose where Douglas and Glen were born over the next four years. Tony passed away in 1956 at age 37. Viola married Cliff McLeod in 1958 and moved to a new family home on 55th street in Camrose where they lived for many years. Cathy was born to Cliff and Viola on November 26, 1958. When Cathy began school, Viola took a job at the Rosehaven laundry where she worked for over 17 years. During this time she was very active in the Legion's Womens' Auxiliary. Cliff and Viola parted in 1973 and some years later she moved to Red Deer to join her companion, Lloyd Brown and his family, Edwin, Edie and Myrna. Wanting to return to Camrose for her later years, she moved back in 2000 where she enjoyed her time at Parkview Place and Rosealta Lodge. Viola loved cooking amazing food for her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, an adventurous traveller and had a passion for keeping up on her "beauty routine". She passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2014 at the age of 95 years at Bethany Long Term Care.
