Walter Heinrich Lachmann was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan on March 12, 1921 to Amelia and Ludwig. He attended Church and School there. Many years, because of poor farming conditions, they only had vegetables from the garden, especially potatoes and whatever fruit they could preserve. Walter found odd jobs to help bring a little income or trade for items they needed. After years of drought, he, his parents and sister Elma were forced to resettle. They came to Alberta where his brother oto had been working for a few years. They purchased a farm six miles west of Camrose in 1946. In 1961 the farm was sold and they moved into Camrose. He married Margaret Olson May 26, 1979. They resided in Camrose until 2010 when due to health reasons, he and Margaret moved to Lamont, Long Term Care. Walter was a handyman, and a carpenter. He became well known for the rocks he made for floor curling and had requests from all over Canada for them. He was predeceased by his parents, brother William in 1917, brother Otto and sister-in-law Ida, niece Betty; sister Elma and brother-in-law Ed Loken, nephew-in-law Wayne Nelson; Aunts and Uncles. Left to cherish his memory are his step-children Louise (David) Walden of Edmonton, Vernon (Edith Servage)Olsen of Red Water, Elaine Maxwell(Bob Hemmings) of Edmonton; niece Sandra Nelson of Camrose; numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jeff Nilsson officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
