Please share a memory of Arvid to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Arvid Lavern Nelson was born on August 12, 1940 in Camrose to Olgar and Clara Nelson of Bawlf, Alberta. He passed away peacefully at the Camrose hospital on June 4th, 2014. He attended Bawlf School until Grade 9 and then decided he was going to farm with dad Olgar on the family farm. Arvid met Marlene Mitchell and they were married on March 20, 1965. To this union three girls were born, Shirley, Michele, Denise. After Arvid and Marlene were divorced Arvid met and married Marie Lunn in April 21, 1994. They lived on the family farm until moving to Camrose in 1996. Shortly after Arvid went to work for Allan and Elouise Gordeyko. Every spring and fall he helped with their crop farming operation up until a few years ago as a result of failing health. A lifetime friendship was formed. Arvid touched many lives and was always ready to lend a hand where needed. He had a love for donkeys and cows as part of his farming operation, as evident by all the pictures. They were something he was most proud of besides his grandchildren. Arvid enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors as well as them coming to visit him. Camping, playing cards, floor curling and beer were some of Arvid's life pleasures. Arvid leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Marie; his children, Shirley (Cam), and their children Taylor and Brady; Michele; and Denise (Grant) and their children Kendra and Devin; sisters Florence of Salmon Arm, B.C, Lois of Camrose and special friend Ed Belsheim of Edmonton, Lorraine of Camrose; step-children Rhonda of Trochu, Sandra of Camrose, and Donna (Terry) of Calmar and their children Curt and April; grandchildren Randy (Rosie), Seryna, Ashley (Darrel), Tyrell (Leah) and Wyatt. Arvid was predeceased by his parents Olgar and Clara Nelson. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2014 from Skudesness Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
