Obituary of Caroline Catherine Volk

Caroline Catherine Volk

(September 5, 1939 - April 1, 2024)

Caroline Catherine, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and good friend to many, passed away April 1, 2024 at the age of 84 years with her family by her side.

Caroline was born September 5, 1939 to Joseph and Mary (Brausen) Wolbeck. She was the youngest of four children. She fondly remembered growing up on the family farm West of Heisler with her siblings Melvin, Lloyd and Doreen. She went to school in Heisler driving a horse and cart with cousin Kathleen (Badry).

On June 17, 1958 she married Wilfred Volk in St. Martins Church. They started their married life on Wilfred’s parents’ farm (the Eaton Farm) West of Heisler. Here they raised their three children, Robert, Doug and Noreen. They lived in the original house for 13 years without power and running water.

Caroline loved every aspect of their mixed farm. They raised chickens, pigs, turkeys, range cows, and her favorite, dairy cows. They farmed until 1983 when they moved to Heisler. Caroline then took pride in working at the Killam Hospital in housekeeping and laundry for seventeen years. Many friendships were formed and still existed till her passing.

In 2005, Wilfred and Caroline lost their son Doug which no parent ever recovers from.

Caroline really enjoyed her years at Providence Place in Daysland. There, many old friendships were re-established, and new ones were made.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Robert & Val (Waldorf) Volk, daughter-in-law Jackie Volk, and Noreen & Kelly Zimmer; her ten grandchildren, Brad Volk, Ryan (Kristyn) Volk, Jordan (Rayann) Volk and Brooklyn Volk, Darci (Joe) Ramsdale, Chelsie (Jeff) Hurd, Taylor (Devan) Kolk, and Lindsay Volk (Austin Ganson), Kristie (Dustin) Nahajowich and Colin (Dailyn) Zimmer; her sixteen great-grandchildren, Trent and Liam Volk, Charlie, Jaxon, Brynlee, and Ellie Volk, Logan, Elise, and Hannah Hurd, Miles, Heidi and Dallas Kolk, Emmy and Calder Nahajowich, and Brydann and Kolson Zimmer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Caroline was predeceased by her husband Wilfred; son Douglas; all three siblings Melvin, Lloyd and Doreen (Weller); and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.
