Obituary of Jean Rose Twitchell

Jean Rose Twitchell

(July 17, 1926 - March 27, 2024)

Passing away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, it is with heavy hearts but so many precious memories that we bid a fond farewell to our beloved Mother, Jean.

Born to Ed and Mary Lansing on July 17, 1926 Jean lived on the farm in the Spring Lake District along with her three sisters and one brother. Life was at times hard but there were good times too, and Mom always had a story to tell about life on the farm and the fun times shared with cousins and friends.

Mom loved family, clothes and maple walnut ice cream! She had a way of making every one of us feel like we were the most important person in her life, and when the grandbabies, great and great-great grandbabies started to arrive she couldn’t have been happier.

Jean was a classy, hardworking and determined gal.  Between raising three children, tending to a large garden and working in the Killam hospital, she took a dietitian course (by correspondence no less) and then became the dietitian in the Daysland Hospital. She loved her work and we were so proud of her accomplishments. In later years, Mom and Dad caught the travel bug and they wasted no time: major league baseball games, a trip to Europe and yearly trips to the Canadian Brier were just a few of the destinations on their bucket list. Dad passed in 1990 and a number of years later Mom moved to Camrose. Always active and on the go, bowling, spending time with family and friends, and more travelling filled her social calendar.

Predeceased by her loving husband Art; sisters Esther, Delores and Glenis; and brother Robert; Jean leaves to cherish her memory her children Jane (Ed Richard), David (Brenda Weller) and Betty Jean (Owen Spiller); along with eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, and if you wish, please make a donation in Jean’s memory to a charity of your choice. The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at Deer Meadows and Seasons; your kind and compassionate care of Mom has been nothing short of amazing.
