Obituary of Donna Marguerite Nahajowich

Donna Marguerite Nahajowich

(October 2, 1947 - February 29, 2024)

Donna was born on October 2, 1947, in Edmonton, Alberta to Kenneth and Betty Field. Donna grew up on a farm near Bruce, Alberta. After graduating from Holden High School, she moved to Edmonton to attend technical school for administration. She returned to Bruce where she met Rudy Nahajowich, whom she married on February 7, 1970. After a short time in Camrose, they settled on the farm north of Daysland, Alberta, where they raised their three sons, Grant, Roger, and Daniel.

Donna was a devoted mother and grandmother. There was nothing more important to her than taking care of those she loved most. She enjoyed cooking, working together with Rudy on the farm, and spending as much time outdoors as possible tending to her flower beds and gardening. She had many talents including sewing, wood working, scrapbooking, drawing, and painting.

The only thing Donna loved more than being a mother, was being a grandmother. She cherished her time with each of her grandkids and always made a point to do things that fit their specific interests. She would spend hours on the floor playing cars with the boys or creating beautiful arts and crafts with the girls. Her adventurous spirit continued with them, when they would hunt down the best playgrounds, swimming pools or skateparks to have fun during a trip to town. Donna loved to spoil her grandkids by making their favorite treats and foods. Part of her time with them was spent passing on her cooking skills to teach them how to make what they loved.

Donna enjoyed challenging herself and was never afraid of hard work, never stopping until a job was done. That trait is one she passed down to her boys. She spent many hours collecting unique rocks around the farmland then placed each one to form a walking path within their treed shelter belt. It was a place she loved to sit, reading a book, surrounded by the trees, flowers, and birds.

Donna was also an intelligent and social woman who worked various jobs, including Administration at the Daysland Catholic Church, waitress at Smitty’s Restaurant and data collections clerk for Statistics Canada. Donna retired at the age of 70, however, continued to hold her position as treasurer of the Polska Church until her passing. Donna's legacy lives on through family, her artwork, and time shared with those who knew her.

Left to cherish Donna’s memories are her husband, Rudy; children Grant (Denise), Roger (Stacey) and Daniel (Crystal); grandchildren Kendra, Quinn, Devin, Haleigh, Grace, and Jensen; mother and stepfather Betty and Ben Modin; stepmother Isabella Field; siblings Clifford (Arlene) Field, Elaine (Donald) Laing, Barry (Lynn) Field, Angela Hanson, Meld (Dale) Myren; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Donna was predeceased by her stepbrother Rodney Field; her father Kenneth Field; father-in-law John Nahajowich and mother-in-law Agnes Nahajowich.
