Obituary of Alfred Green

Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alfred Green was born in Yeoford, Alberta on December 20, 1918. He was the 5th child, and second son of John Green of Estonia, and Mary Kvist of Finland (married in 1910). Alfred grew up on the family farm and remained in the family home along with his brother Edward and their mother. Over 25 years ago Alfred retired and moved to Camrose settling north of the tracks across from the bingo hall. After 10 years when some of his close neighbours had either died or moved, Alfred decided to move to his current location on 48B Ave. Well, his move really had more to do with having had enough of the bingo hall commotion across the street and the fact that he saw the city was growing west. Alfred enjoy a very healthy life once boasting that he hadn't had a cold in decades. He was often found in his garage puttering away and creating some practical item he was making of something else. Alfred enjoyed reading anything where he could learn something new and was often thoughtful about what he read. He was a minimalist before the term was popular. He was meticulous about how he kept his home and there was certainly a correct place for everything. He was ever organized and thorough. Alfred was excellent with his recollection of dates spanning the years and had a great memory. Alfred enjoyed the Camrose annual Heritage Museum Old Farm Machinery show that took place 3rd weekend in September and along with the Jay Walkers Jamboree. Alfred was adament that he did not want to move from his home nor was he welcoming at the idea of home care, he was prideful to do everything for himself. He enjoyed his solitude. In the end Alfred knew it was his time to go and had a last visit with his grand niece days prior to his departure. His grin was intact and his sense of humor also remained to the end. Alfred enjoyed knowing something you did not know and watching you discover it while he chuckled. He often waited for a visit to tell you news as he loved to watch you take it all in. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment followed in the Wetaskiwin Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Camrose Museum Machinery & Old Fashioned Day.
