Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ernest Gordon Hoyme of Camrose passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the age of 93 years. Ernest Gordon Hoyme, second son of Gustav Edward Hoyme and Alma Lyseng, was born on December 4, 1920 in his parents' farm home in the New Salem district. After completing school in that district, Ernest spent one year at Camrose Lutheran College and two years at Olds School of Agriculture, graduating in 1939. Ernest then farmed with his father until 1945 when he bought his own half-section of land. On June 29, 1947, Ernest married Margaret Doreen Jacobson of the Hampton District. They built a home and started their farm life together. Born to this union was one daughter, Marilyn and two sons, Nolan and Marvin. Ernest and Doreen farmed together there for 36 years until they bought and moved into a house in Camrose in 1983 where they resided for 28 years. Even during these 28 years Ernest spent much of his time out on the farm continuing to help harvest until he was 90 years of age. Ernest was an active lifetime member of the United Farmers of Alberta. He helped build the telephone cooperative in his farming area. Ernest was one of the first Directors of the Co-Op Store in Camrose and was active on the church council of Messiah Lutheran Church. Ernest was an avid farmer and loved his chosen career. He was very innovative: adapting and building such things as a bale elevator, bale stooker, and a cleaning system in his hog barn. He also was very proud of being a Registered Seed Grower in Alberta. In July 2011 Ernest and Doreen moved into Deer Meadows in Camrose where they have enjoyed the company and support of so many good friends and Deer Meadows staff for two and a half years. Ernest passed away in his home at the age of 93 years on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. Left to cherish Ernest's memory are his wife Doreen; daughter Marilyn Norton (Dave); sons Nolan (Ricky Lynn) Hoyme, and Marvin (Cindy) Hoyme; grandchildren Myles (Sherry) Norton, Andrew (Deanna) Norton, Karleen (Calvin) Norton-Breitkreuz, Jason (Lauren) Hoyme, Tyler Hoyme, Cheryl (Zach) Hillman, Mark Hoyme and Ryan Hoyme; and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as brothers Konard, Arnold (Edith), Clifford (Dorothy), and Melford (Donna) and one sister, Almira Mann. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Orin. A Funeral Service was held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. David Eriksson officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Messiah Lutheran church or to the Bethany Group.
