Obituary of Doreen Eleanor Hovde
Doreen Eleanor Hovde
(October 21, 1931 - November 12, 2023)
Doreen (Hirsch) Hovde was born on October 21, 1931 in Galahad, AB and was the youngest of eleven children. She passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023.
Doreen met Arnold Hovde while playing baseball. They married on November 15, 1952, and raised their family of four kids at the Hovde family farm northeast of Camrose. Doreen and Arnold farmed together until his passing in 1996. She then moved into Camrose in 1997 for her retirement years.
Doreen was well-known as an excellent cook. She had a dry but goofy sense of humor. Doreen loved to laugh and giggle and have others do the same.
Faith and family were a cornerstone to Doreen’s life. The Hovde’s involvement in their church community was important and through this her faith grew throughout her life.
Above all, Doreen was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all meant more to her than anything.
Left to cherish Doreen’s memory are her daughter Laurel (George) Matchullis; sons Rodger (Tannis), David (Lynn), and Douglas (Jane); grandchildren Nancy (Clint), Jennifer (Mathew), Jarod (Hannah), Ty, Christina (Michael), Colton (Shaina), Nikayla (Kory) and Kaylynn; nine special great-grandchildren; as well as her sister Jane Watson; brother George Roberts; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Christina; step-mother Mae; brothers Levi Lippert, Alphonse Lippert, Alex Hirsch, Henry Hirsch, Ben Hirsch and Fred Hirsch; and sisters Florence Lange, Geraldine Kelly, and Andreena Robinson.
She will be greatly missed.
