Obituary of Herman Julius Bauer

Herman Julius Bauer

(October 1, 1938 - September 28, 2023)

Herman Julius Bauer was born on October 1st, 1938 in Vegreville, Alberta to parents Julius and Lydia Bauer. Herman had three older brothers Lloyd, Edgar and Kurt. They farmed south of Vegreville on the correction line road a mile east of the Holden Evangelical Missionary Church. While his brothers moved away from the farm to pursue other careers, Herman started farming at the age of 16 eventually taking over the farm from his parents.

In 1960 Carolyn Albrecht moved with her family from Edmonton to a farm west of Vegreville and started attending the Holden Evangelical Church where Herman attended. After two years of courtship, they married on June 16, 1962. Two years later they started a family with sons Lyle “Cameron” (1964) and Kelly (1966) followed by two daughters Tracy (1969) and Chrystal (1975).
Herman and Carolyn farmed until 2008 when they decided to move to Camrose to enjoy their retirement. Herman adapted to city life seamlessly keeping busy working on projects with Kelly and volunteering at the Restore. Herman and Carolyn were also able to enjoy traveling as a couple and with friends.

In December 2017 Herman was diagnosed with early onset Dementia. Then in 2020 Herman developed a cancerous growth on his neck and after a 13-hour surgery he was declared to be cancer free. Unfortunately, the lengthy procedure took a toll on his mind and body. His dementia was now starting to progress more rapidly but Carolyn was able care for him at home even after health professionals were advising that he should be placed in supportive living. On August 4th of 2023 Herman was taken to St. Mary’s hospital because his dementia had become too much to manage. On Sept 19th, 2023 Herman was transferred to Rosehaven Care Center and 9 days later, on Sept 28th, 2023, he suddenly passed away due to a medical complication.

Left to cherish his memory wife Carolyn Bauer of Camrose; children Lyle "Cameron" Bauer of Vauxhall, Kelly (Monique) Bauer of Camrose, Tracy (Dale) Benoit of Vegreville, and Chrystal Bauer of Sherwood Park; grandchildren Austin Bauer, Jackson Bauer, Amber (Danton) Davis, Brooke (Cole) Comfort, Chanelle Bauer, Brittany (Ryan) Pulyk, Rylan Benoit, (Aaron Neyrinck), Brontae Whitten and Ryker Whitten; and great-grandchildren Addilyn Davis, Ariyah Davis, Dawson Davis, Madyson Pulyk, Ashtyn Pulyk, and Kaydence Pulyk.
