Obituary of Margaret Lynn Marchand

Margaret "Peggy" Lynn Marchand

(June 17, 1954 - September 13, 2023)

Margaret "Peggy" Lynn Marchand of Onoway, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the age of 69 years.

Peggy was born on June 17, 1954, in Camrose Alberta, the daughter of Esther and Raymond Ovelson. She lived in Kingman Alberta until 1968 when she moved to Jasper Alberta with her parents. She attended school in Jasper at Jasper Jr. / Sr. High School. After leaving school she married Murdoch Bowen of Jasper in 1972 and they had two sons, Curtis and Scott. Their marriage ended in 1981 and she moved to Hinton Alberta with Curtis and Scott where she worked and the boys attended school. Peggy met Nalbert Marchand of Edson in 1984. Nalbert had two children from a previous marriage, Randi and Gord, who lived with their mother in Edmonton. Peggy moved to Edson in 1986 with her two boys. Peggy and Nalbert were married in Hinton in 1987 and lived in Edson until they moved to Edmonton that same year. Curtis moved back to Jasper to live with his father and finished high school. Peggy worked at various jobs while in Edmonton and in 1991 Peggy, Scott, and Nalbert moved to Kamloops B.C. where Scott attended school. In 2001 they moved to Fort McMurray Alberta and then to Ardrossan Alberta in 2003. The next and final move was to Onoway Alberta where they retired.

Peggy was a woman of many talents. She played an integral role in the designing and building of two new homes in Edmonton and Fort McMurray. She was also an avid landscaper and gardener. As she moved from one location to another, she worked on renovating, painting, and finishing to change each place from a house to a home. Once most of the heavy lifting was done and she transitioned into retirement, she kept very busy doing scrapbooking, and acrylic painting, as well as maintaining her coveted flower beds which were the envy of the neighborhood.

Peggy was always very interested in her Scandinavian heritage and once the internet came about, she used it extensively as a research tool, taught herself HTML, and developed a website that other genealogists could use as a resource to produce their family trees. She worked tirelessly on developing the Ovelson and Mhyre family trees until her health began to fail.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Nalbert Marchand of Onoway; children Curtis Bowen of Grande Cache, Scott Bowen (Leanne Jones-Bowen) of Edmonton, Randi Marchand of Edmonton, and Gord (Monica) Marchand of Edmonton; siblings Doreen (John) Marcisyn of Hinton and Bev (Ivan) Hollenbeck of Onoway; and six grandchildren Dylan Bowen (Scott), Samantha Carr Marchand (Randi), Logan Carr Marchand (Randi), George Marchand (Gord and Monica), Daisy Marchand (Gord and Monica), and Lily Marchand (Gord and Monica).
Peggy was predeceased by her parents Raymond Thor Ovelson and Esther Synnove; and brothers Dennis Ovelson and Leonard Ovelson.
