Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Campbell

Tom Campbell of Camrose passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the age of 96 years. Thomas Campbell was born on August 12, 1917 at Round Hill on the Law Homestead. As a young man he hauled timbers for the mine, completed basic training for the war and operated a boring machine drilling wells with his brothers. In 1941 he married Irene Olson and settled into farming life which become a lifelong pursuit. They had six children Marilyn, Bernice, Vernon, Linda, Dwayne, and Eldon. Tom was the last living charter member of the Round Hill Elks. He moved to Camrose in 1991 and became a resident of Bethany in 2003. Left to cherish his memory are his children Marilyn (Ken) Olson of Camrose, Bernice (Willis) Bolding of Bawlf, Vernon (Dianne) of Round Hill, Linda (Bryan) Simonson of Calgary, Dwayne (Linda) of Lacombe, and Eldon (Sandra) of Sherwood Park; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers Stewart (Jeanne) of Round Hill, Lester (Donna) of Edmonton; sisters Doreen Haugen of Camrose and Shirley Stensrud of Ryley. Tom was predeceased by his wife Irene; six brothers Albert, Donald, Robert, George, William, infant brother James; and one sister Margaret. He will be remembered for his love of the land, his love of children and his great memory and wit. A funeral service was held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Messiah Lutheran Church (4810 50 Street, Camrose) with Pastor David Eriksson officiating. Inurnment took place in the Bosmans Garden, Round Hill. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Bosmans Memorial Gardens Round Hill, or to the charity of one's choice.
