Obituary of Josephine Frances Sharlow

Josephine "Jo" Frances Sharlow

(October 29, 1932 - August 15, 2023)

Josephine Sharlow passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023 at the age of 90.

Jo was born and raised in Stony Plain, AB. She moved to Mayerthorpe for work where she met and married LeRoy on April 28, 1954 and they started their family. They moved west to the mountains, residing in Brule, Jasper and Grande Cache. She collected lifelong friendships wherever she lived.

Jo was very active and enjoyed curling, baseball, gardening, knitting and crocheting. Vacations were spent out on the trail with her family, friends, horses and mules.

She was a great cook and welcoming to all, even those who drove through her garden fence. She was not afraid to run off a bear trying to get at the meat in her root cellar, put a man in his place if he complained about how his eggs were cooked in a busy restaurant or a carpenter who couldn’t follow a blueprint of the floorplan of their house. She volunteered for multiple organizations and functions.

After Jo lost LeRoy in ’92 she continued to keep busy in the community and travel the province visiting friends and family. She moved to Camrose in 2012 to be closer to her 3 girls.

Her bright smile and quick wit will be missed by a multitude of friends and family.

Jo is survived by her daughters Myrna, Dalyce and Marcea; son-in-law Al; her grandsons LeRoy (Cassidy) and Coleman (Becky); and great-grandchildren Penelope, Thatcher and Herschel.

At Jo’s adamant request, there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jo's memory may be made to the Grande Cache Hospital Foundation (Box 1228, Grande Cache, AB T0E 0Y0) or to a charity of one's choice.
