Obituary of Evelyn Astle

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn, the second of six children of William and Evelyn Moore, was born at home on February 22, 1926, and passed away peacefully on April 9, 2014 in Killam, Alberta at the age of 88. Evelyn grew up in the Fort Saskatchewan area, helping out on the family farm. Along with her sisters they did a lot of the outside work. Walking the fields they would poison the gophers, pick rocks, and pull wild mustard from the grain field. Is this why she had a weedless garden? She graduated from the Fort Saskatchewan High School and went to the University of Alberta for a short time. Evelyn met Ken on a blind date and they were Married on December 15, 1948, a marriage lasting 64 years. From the various places they worked and lived, throughout their married life, they created many lasting friendships. Evelyn enjoyed spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, baking, dancing, playing cards but most of all she loved visiting with family and friends. During their "Snow Bird" days they would even look up friends and family that may be down south also. She did work out of the house for a while but the majority of her time was spent raising her family, being a hockey mom, skating mom, seamstress or whatever else was needed. She encouraged her children and grandchildren in whatever they choose to do, being a #1 fan cheering them on from the sports stands, audience, or from behind the scene. The group of angels that she'll be joining is her husband Ken, her parents William & Evelyn Moore, her brothers: Donald (died in infancy), and Ray; Sister: June Mohr; Grandchildren: Ken B. Astle, Cheryl McKinnon and Drew Ashmore; Sister-in-law Shirley Stawinski; Brothers-in-law: Clement Boisjoli, Al Batchelor, and John Stawinski.
