Obituary of James Harold Wieler

James "Jim" Harold Wieler

(May 25, 1951 - June 29, 2023)

It is with much sadness we share that James “Jim” Wieler of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Thursday June 29th, 2023, at the age of 72 years.  Jim was born in 1951 in Carman, Manitoba and was the youngest child and only son of Peter and Aganetha (Nettie Wiebe) Wieler.

Jim grew up on the family farm in Elm Creek, Manitoba but moved west to Alberta as a young man. He enjoyed a career of 45 years in his role at Shaw Pipe, working first in Edmonton, and finishing his career in Camrose where he retired.  He enjoyed traveling and, in his lifetime, had the chance to travel throughout North America and overseas to Australia, Thailand and other far-flung places.  His most recent trip was to Mexico.  In his later years he also liked returning home to Manitoba to visit his sisters and other family and sometimes help during planting or the harvest on his nephew Jason Finnie’s farm.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Peter and Nettie; and his sisters Lillian (Lil), Dorothy (Dot), Jean and (Elizabeth) Betty.  He is survived by his sister Florence; his children Michelle and Ryan; former wife Donna; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including longtime companion Lil Rybak.

At Jim’s request, his family wanted to recognize the hard work and dedication of Dr. Pieter Horn in Camrose, Dr. Richard Fox at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton, and the other medical staff who cared for him for providing excellent care in the last weeks of his life.

As per Jim’s request, no service will be held.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Alberta Cancer Foundation.
