Gertrude "Gertie" Annella Hougestol

(July 6, 1930 - June 15, 2023)

Gertrude "Gertie" Annella Hougestol of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the age of 92 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Norma Scott of Drayton Valley, Anne (Les) Bourque of Sicamous, BC, Gail Kshyk of Edmonton, Terry Hougestol of Bashaw, Judy Johnston of Fort Saskatchewan, Brian Hougestol of Edmonton, and Wayne Hougestol of Wetaskiwin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Gertie was predeceased by her husband Russ; her parents; and her siblings.

Mom came to us as a housekeeper when we were fairly young. Mom took on the five of us kids plus her own son, who we called Shorty until he was twelve. This was no easy feat. Mom was always there for us, but Dad was the law. Misbehave and Mom would make sure Dad found out about it.

Mom and Dad moved a lot over the years. One or the other would see a house they liked and off we went, we would move. Later in years, after we all moved out, we would have to call before a visit to see where they were living.

Mom like to knit, crochet, put together puzzles, camp and go to garage sales. She made terrific food. She loved to visit and travel with her sister Betty. Mom was quiet, determined, loving, and hard working. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Our memories will always bring smiles to our faces, and love to our hearts.
 

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Burgar Memorial Chapel, 4817 - 51 Avenue Camrose officiated by Rev. MaryAnn Pastuck. 

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Gertie's memory may be made to Breast Cancer Foundation Canada, or to the charity of one's choice.
