Obituary of Margaret Cassady

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Laverna Cassady of Camrose passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Margaret was born December 21st, 1923 in Camrose Alberta to Mamie and James Agrios. Margaret was the 3rd child in a family of seven. Margaret was proud to call Camrose her lifetime home. She attended grade school at the Camrose Normal School (now Rosehaven) and graduated from the Camrose High School (now Charlie Killam School) in 1943. She was proud to receive a school board award for 13 years of perfect attendance. When asked how this was possible she attributed it to "Sunny Boy Cereal" every morning to which the local producer rewarded her endorsement with another certificate. As a young person Margaret played piano loved to sew and enjoyed school and her many friends. She had a camera in high school and many of her "snaps" were of friends on the grounds at high school. She often reflected in sadness to "all the boys that didn't return home from the war". She kept a scrapbook including clippings and keepsakes that grew to include a few volumes that present an interesting timeline of her life. After graduation she took a secretarial course and a job at the Alberta Liquor Control Board, living with her dad's relatives in Edmonton. On VE Day, May8, 1945 Margaret married Cliff in Camrose. Together they raised 5 children Susan, Jane, George, David and Ruth. She was a dedicated mother and "homemaker" with a weekly regulated schedule that insured a neat home with 3 meals every day; two of them hot. Kids were always home for dinner at noon every school day. She sewed many of her own and the kids clothes, loved to garden both in her sunroom and out. She was an expert at fudge, brownies and cookies and a talent for embroidery. She loved to make handmade gifts for all occasions. Once the house became quiet in later years, Margaret jumped straight into the job market, enjoying retail in shoe sales and variety stores as well as making new friends. She also volunteered her time to Centra Cam and was on the board for many years. She also loved crossword puzzles and was seldom seen without her camera. Margaret was excited to finally go for her driver's license and own a car at age 58, a new found freedom. Margaret was a kind, fun loving and gentle woman who will live on in the memory of any who knew her. She also had an opinionated side which you knew about if you knew her well. The family extends sincere thanks and appreciation for the attention, support and well wishes provided by the staff at Louise Jensen Care Centre throughout mom's illness. And to all others whose thoughts and prayers are both appreciated and gratefully acknowledged. Left to cherish her memory are her children Susan (Cecil) Throndson of Camrose, Jane (Duane) Kinnee of Kelsey, George (Joyce) of Edmonton, David (Carolyn) of Camrose, and Ruth Cassady of Edmonton; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brother Mickey Agrios of Kelowna, B.C.. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Clifford; one brother; and four sisters. A Funeral Service was held 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2014 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer's Association, Centra Cam, or to the charity of one's choice.
