Annie Hilgartner

(December 1, 1937 - April 24, 2023)

 

Annie Hilgartner of Camrose, Alberta, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the age of 85 years.

 

Annie was born to Peter and Katherine Gelety on December 1, 1937 in Mannville, AB. 


Annie attended Fort Kent school (District of Bonnyville, AB). In 1958, she enrolled in a four-year nursing program which included two years in the psychiatric nursing program at the Provincial Mental Hospital in Ponoka, AB and two years at the Royal Alec School of Nursing in Edmonton, AB. 


Annie married Ben Hilgartner on June 9, 1962 in Bonnyville, AB. To this union three daughters, Elizabeth, Cathy, and Debbie, were born. 


Annie started her nursing career at St. Mary Hospital in Camrose, AB from 1962 until 1992. Then, she spent five years with The Bethany Group (Long Term Care Centre) in Camrose, AB.


Annie enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, knitting, sewing, going on camping trips with family to B.C., and going on many wagon train rides weekends, throughout Bittern Lake, AB and Gwynne, AB, with her husband Ben. 


Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Elizabeth (David) Macieyowski, Cathy Drever (late Lenny O’Dell), and Debbie (Curtis) Bretherick; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond (Donna) Gelety and Kenny (Helen) Gelety; sister-in-law Diane Gelety; and numerous nieces and nephews. 


Annie was predeceased by her husband Ben Hilgartner; parents Peter and Katherine Gelety; brothers Alex Gelety and Nick Gelety; Uncle Bill Greschuk; and sister-in-law Norma Gelety.

 

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel, 4817 - 51 Avenue Camrose with Rev. Collin Hauch officiating.
