Obituary of Lila Jean Majeski

Lila Jean Majeski

(July 8, 1934 - January 1, 2023)

Lila Jean Majeski of Camrose, Alberta passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of 88 years.

Lila Majeski was born on July 8, 1934, to John and Clara Rude in Cereal, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm in the Sedalia area. Due to Clara’s poor health, she also went to live with her older sister, Lillian, and her husband, Mandell Sletton, on their farm nearby. She was the second youngest of 13 siblings, attending school in both Cophill and later Camrose when her parents moved there. Lila was fortunate to be surrounded by her brothers & sisters at a young age & enjoyed many good times with family & friends. Lila met Art Majeski while attending high school in Camrose and they were married on November 11, 1952. Two years later they were blessed with a son, Daryle, followed by James and then Deanna. Lila was very proud of her children and along with Art, spent a lot of time taking them to various sports & watching them play hockey & ball, to name a few.

In the early years, while raising the family on the farm north of Camrose, Lila still managed to find time to work at various jobs, such as Driedger Agencies, NADP creamery, and the library at CLC (now Augustana campus) in Camrose. She enjoyed meeting people and was never shy to visit & chat. Lila was a gracious hostess and always made everyone feel welcome. She was very proud of her farm roots and enjoyed sharing memories of those times on the farm. She was an amazing cook, baker, & master of many crafts, such as painting, cake-decorating & sewing. Mom was also known to never tire of doing a room reno or make-over, typically painting, wall-papering, changing the blinds, or re-arranging the furniture! Over the years, Lila & Art travelled and enjoyed numerous trips together with friends & family. In 2011, she & Art moved off the farm to Camrose. Art’s declining health later forced a move for him into the Louise Jensen Care Centre, where he resided until his passing in September 2018. Over the next few years, Lila’s own declining health required a move into the Seasons Retirement Community in Camrose, where she lived until her passing.

Lila is survived by three children Daryle (Tetyana), James (Michelle), and Deanna (Greg) Wilcox; three grandchildren Ben Majeski, Jacquelyn Thompson, & Erika Wilcox Hellekson (Troy); two step-grandchildren Mathew Anderson (Val) and Mary Nhan (Dennis); four great-grandchildren Mercedes Majeski, Madyson Thompson, Abigail Majeski, & Ebony Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lila was predeceased by her parents John and Clara Rude; husband Art; sisters Violet, Gladys, Mabel, and Lillian; and brothers Clifford, Clarence, James, Bennie, Donald, Elvin, Elmer and Stanley; as well as numerous brothers & sisters in law.

Lila always made time for family & friends & demonstrated kindness and generosity to all who knew her. Lila has donated her remains to the University of Alberta Anatomical Gifts Program and was accepted into their care.

The family would like to thank the staff at Seasons for the care and attention that was given to Lila during her stay there.

A Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2023, at CityLights Church, 4920 48 Street Camrose, with Dr. Terry Fossen officiating.
