Thorey Peterson of Camrose passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Thorey Peterson was born on September 2, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the third oldest of seven children of Eirikur and Gudrun Vigfusson. The family homesteaded in the Oakview district of Manitoba where Thorey's schooling took place. She left the farm in her later teen years to take business post education schooling in Winnipeg. The family moved to Selkirk, Manitoba in 1946, where Thorey joined them to marry Robert Hawes in 1949. Her three children, Ken, Karen and Rick were all born in Selkirk. Thorey moved to Edmonton in 1963 to work at Trader's Finance and married Les Greenham in 1969. Les and Thorey moved to Camrose in 1977 and enjoyed acreage living east of Camrose until Les's passing in 1977. Thorey had a very successful career in Camrose with the law firm of Knaut Johnson until her retirement in 1992. Thorey would marry Floyd Peterson in 1989, and would enjoy the three happiest years of her life until Floyd's passing in December of 1992. Thorey was predeceased by her father and mother; brothers Norman and Leslie; sisters Anna and Lilja and son Erick in 2001. She leaves to mourn her passing two children, Ken (Marguerite) Hawes of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and Karen (Ken) Jonah of Chestermere, Alberta; two brothers, Herbert ( Phyllis) Vigfusson of Sherwood Park and Hjalmar (Teri) Vigfusson of White Rock, British Columbia; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Donations may be made in memoriam to the CNIB (Macular Degeneration) or to the charity of one's choice. A Funeral Service was held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 from Burgar Memorial Chapel (4817 51 Ave Camrose, Ab) with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Camrose Cemetery at a later date. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to C.N.I.B RE: Macular Degeneration.
