Payton Ruby Lindholm

(March 31, 2011 - July 29, 2022)

Payton Ruby Lindholm of New Norway, Alberta, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the age of 11 years.

Payton was welcomed into this world on March 31, 2011 to Dane and Michelle Lindholm. Our beautiful little girl captured the hearts of all who knew her. At the tender age of two, Payton was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. With her loving family by her side, she beat the odds and was cancer free for eight years.

On November 22, 2013, Payton helped her Mom and Dad welcome her brother and best friend Ethan into the family. Payton and Ethan shared a very special bond. Most mornings you could find Payton and Ethan snuggled up chatting in one of their beds. Even when Payton and Ethan had a disagreement they were always quick to resolve the issue and remained inseparable.
Payton loved attending New Norway School with her classmates. Grace, Ayla, Teaghan, Piper, Karis, Nylah and Kenzie were her BFF’s and they spent many special times together.

Payton’s favorite activities were swimming, playing softball, curling and downhill skiing in the mountains. She enjoyed spending her summers at Pelican Point, boating and soaking up the summer sun on her “Mermicorn” floaty with her family and friends. Payton had a love for cats, especially her beloved George. Their love for one another was mutual. When Payton and George weren’t cuddling on the couch, you could find her crafting. She enjoyed doing many crafts especially canvas painting, diamond dots and building lego. She dreamed of being a fashion designer when she grew up. Payton found peace and comfort in creativity up until the last moments of her life.

In May 2021, Payton’s medical journey changed when an unknown mass was discovered during a yearly MRI. The following months were filled with medical appointments and tests with Michelle, Dane and Ethan at her side providing her strength. In June 2022, Payton was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer and fought extremely hard while continuing to maintain a positive attitude and found joy in living each day.

Payton was adored by everyone who met her and will be remembered for her loving, caring, selfless and kind spirit. She will be forever missed and always loved by her family and friends.

Payton is survived by her parents Dane and Michelle; younger brother Ethan; grandparents Rick and Connie Trautman, and Craig and Julie Lindholm; great-grandma Kay; Uncle Mark and Auntie Desiree (Walker, Haven, Brielle, Jensen); Uncle Brad and Auntie Danielle (Miley, Foster); Auntie Charlene and Uncle Mitchel (Hans, Brooks, Ren); Auntie Kyla; Uncle Tim; and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday, August 5, 2022 at CityLights Church, with Rev. MaryAnn Pastuck officiating. A recording of the service is accessible at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y60w7m3JHTA.

Payton's family would like to extend their most sincere thank you to everyone who has supported her and their family. Thank you to the staff at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and the Neurosurgery Kids Fund for arranging Payton’s visit to Camp Everest where she was able to swim and enjoy time with her family outside of the hospital.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Payton's memory may be made to the Neurosurgery Kids Fund.
