Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances "Fran" Margaret Bowlan of Camrose passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Frances Margaret Bowlan was born in Charlottetown PEI on December 2, 1928. She grew up in a home connected to the family business, Hennessey Funeral Home, with her parents and 3 siblings (one sister and 2 brothers). She received her education there and on August 28, 1950 married Harold (Scotty) Bowlan and together they headed west to Edmonton in 1952, returning as often as she could to the Island for visits with family and friends. They resided in Edmonton until 1967 when they relocated to Camrose. Being excellent with numbers, most of her working career was spent with accounting firms. Fran did not hesitate to volunteer her expertise and strong leadership skills with various church and community organizations. She was outgoing with a great sense of humour and wit and captured everyone with her contagious laugh. Her love and passion for reading, cooking, and travel brought her much enjoyment and pleasure. In turn, she did book exchanges with individuals and groups, shared many travel experiences, and was a gracious hostess providing countless "gourmet" meals. Fran was fun loving and enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and curling, participating in many tournaments and bonspiels. She had a deep passion and love for music, art and culture. Precious memories and thoughts of our sweet Irish lass will remain with everyone whose lives she touched. She will be lovingly remembered for her warm and generous manner that won the hearts of every age in every family. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers Michael Hennessey of Charlottetown, PEI, and George Hennessey of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; as well as numerous, nieces, nephews and many friends. Fran was predeceased by her husband Harold "Scotty"; sister Mary MacDonald; sisters-in-law Aletha and Teresa; and brother-in-law Ronan. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 from Burgar Memorial Chapel with Mary Ann Pastuck and Rev. Don Stein officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
