Mary Anderson

(November 19, 1932 - June 26, 2022)

Mary Anderson of Camrose, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Mary was born on November 19, 1932 on the family farm near Sandy Rapids AB, to parents Maria and Petro Sarawanski. She attended a one room school at Sandy Rapids for her early grades, then onto high school in Glendon Alberta. Following that she attended McTavish Business School in Edmonton. After graduation Mary worked at the Treasury - Dept. of National Defence – Tactical Air Command.

Mary married Hampton Anderson on November 19, 1954. Their ‘little valentine guy’ arrived in 1956. Mary and Hamp farmed together in the Miquelon Lakes area for forty years retiring to Camrose in 1994. Farm life was busy with crops and ventures into cattle, hogs, milk cows, chicken and egg production. Woven into the hard work was the enjoyment Mary found in cooking and gardening. She took pleasure in watching the antics of the turkeys, ducks, peacocks and guinea fowl that wandered the farmyard. Mary made time for many walks in the woods with Guy as he grew up, pointing out flora and fauna and inspiring in him a lifelong love for nature and the outdoors. Mary liked reading books, especially her Bible. Mary began writing poetry at early age. She quietly continued to enjoy this pastime for years to come, processing life’s joys and sorrows into verse.

Mary and Hamp were active in their church community, first at Wilhelmina Lutheran Church and then Salem Lutheran Church in Kingman. Mary loved to worship the Lord and showed it in all parts of her life. She enjoyed attending church. Over the years she regularly volunteered for church programs including teaching Sunday School classes. Mary also attended or led many Bible Study activities throughout her life, well into her recent years.

Mary treasured her family and dearly missed being able to see her sisters and extended family over the past two years.

On June 26, 2022 Mary left this world to meet her Lord. Left to cherish her memory are her son Guy and his wife Maxine, and her grandson Leif Anderson; sister Nell [Mike] Makar; sister-in-law Helen Sarawanski; and brother-in-law Sam Johnson. She was pre-deceased by her husband Hampton Anderson; her parents Maria and Petro Sarawanski; brother John Sarawanski; sister Annie (Harry) Fersovitch, and sister Elizabeth Johnson.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Salem Lutheran Church, Kingman, with Pastor Gary Aicken officiating.
