Obituary of Hilda Olsen

Hilda was born in Endiang, Alberta on September 21, 1929. She was the second of five children born to David and Johanna Esslinger. Her early memories were of farm life, hard-work, walking to school and being very involved with church activities. Hilda accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour at a young age, and to her last day, desired to serve Him. She worked with her older sister in Edmonton, sending home her pay, to assist her family. It was in Edmonton that she met the love of her life, her best-friend - Robert (Bob) Olsen. They were married May 28, 1949 in Edmonton, Alberta. They had four daughters, who loved farm life as much as they did. They lived in Ferintosh, Alberta; moved to Chico, California for a couple of years, returning to farm-life in Camrose; they retired to the City of Camrose in 1989. They loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, golfing, and enjoyed their 'retirement' with winter vacations in Mesa, Arizona. Hilda was a gifted seamstress, cook and hostess, decorated cakes professionally and enjoyed multiple crafts. They loved having their children and grandchildren enjoy the farm (skidooing, skating, hayrides, camping, ATV's and as many toys as Grandpa could buy!). Bob and Hilda worked together in prayer-ministry for many years in Camrose, and had the joy of seeing many people healed (physically and spiritually), restored and made whole through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mom continued to pray for many hours for who ever the Lord laid upon her heart - up to her last day here on earth. Hilda passed away peacefully February 16, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital. She is survived by her four daughters - Geri (Don) Taylor, Betty (Bob) DuBois, Bev (Ed) Nordvall, LaVonna Smith (Doug MacKenzie); eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brothers Dave (Doreen) Esslinger, Ed (Elenor) Esslinger; and her sister Freda Muth. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Olsen and sister Alma Sherman. A public visitation was held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. from First Baptist Church (6406 44 B Avenue, Camrose) with Rev. Frank Wilson and Rev. Rick Williams officiating. Interment has taken place in Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Gideons Bible Society or the charity of one's choice.
