Robert "Bob" James Read of Ohaton, Alberta passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the age of 59 years. Robert James Read was born on May 1st 1954, in Vancouver B.C. He was the second child for Jim and Vera, and younger brother to Joanne. As a teenager Bob spent many of his weekends water skiing at Hatzic Lake in summer and downhill skiing at Manning. The skiing group became known as the Weekenders Ski Club. Bob also spent time scuba diving off Vancouver Island. After graduating High School in 1972 Bob began working for Columbia Drywall. In 1977, Bob decided to make Alberta his home. Moving to the Camrose area he purchased a mobile home and moved into the "Wedgewood Place". In August of 1978 he married Selina Olson. They welcomed their first son Brett Robert in 1981, and second son Logan Keith in 1984. The family moved the mobile home to the original homesite of Selina's great grandfather Oscar Olson in 1986. In 1989 Bob began building the family home. Bob's work in Camrose started with A. Hansen and Sons and Norvan Services. He then began working for himself and also caught the farming bug. Working during the day and farming after work with the guidance of Elmer Olson. Bob continued to grow his construction business and began Bob Read Contracting Ltd. in 1991. Small renovations began turning into larger projects. As the size of the jobs grew Bob began to hire help. Soon the company had outgrown the home office and in 2007 was relocated to Camrose. In recent years Bob allowed himself to enjoy the rewards of his hard work. He looked forward to winter trips to warm locations, camping with the family and road trips. Sunday afternoons were reserved for spending time with his family and his new job as grandpa. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by: his wife Selina, and their family - Brett and Dana, Logan and Sarah; and granddaughters Chloe, Camryn and Lia; sister Joanne Read; father-in-law Larry Olson; sister-in-law Sue (Mark) Norton; brother-in-law Scott (Kim) Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Vera; and mother-in-law Cherie Olson. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the Messiah Lutheran Church (4810 50 Street, Camrose. AB.) with Rev. Bill Harder and Rev. Brian Krushel officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Parkland Cemetery at a later date.
