Obituary of Katie Blades

Katie Matilda Blades of Camrose passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Katie was born on the family farm southeast of Camrose on April 19, 1935 to Karl and Alma Luz. She was the third youngest of 12 children baptized into the Holy Christian Faith on March 10, 1937 at Grace Lutheran Church in Camrose. She attended Daresbury Country School to grade 9, and grade 10 at Camrose High School. She completed high school by correspondence while she cared for her two younger sisters after the death of their mother. Katie met the love of her life, Jack Blades, and in 1956 they were married at Grace Lutheran Church. It was there in Camrose that they raised five children, Chris, Larry, Gary, Don and Lori. In 2009, after 53 years of marriage, Jack left to be in his heavenly home. Katie joined him the morning of January 1st, 2014 at Saint Mary's Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her children Chris (Joy) Blades, Larry (Debbie) Blades, Gary Blades (Shelley), Don (Rhonda) Blades, Lori Blades; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Francine (Sean), Gabrielle, Bennett Hamilton; Vanessa (Matthew), Logan, Mikayla, Kyler Hamilton; Jason Blades; Jalene (Steve) Johnsen; Sean Blades; Chelsie (Elias) MacDonald; Kelly Blades; Shilene Blades; along with her three remaining sisters, extended family and many friends. Katie was predeceased by her husband Jack; great-granddaughter Emelyn Johnsen; three brothers Art, Wally, and Emil; five sisters Alice, Frieda, Bertha, Susie, and Lena. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace Lutheran Church (5306 50 Ave, Camrose, AB) with Pastor Greg Kjos officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund or The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
