Obituary of Lois Matilda Torpe

Lois Matilda Torpe

(January 31, 1939 - November 20, 2020)

 

Lois Matilda Torpe of Camrose, AB, formerly of Dried Meat Lake, AB, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020, at the age of 81 years.

 

Lois was the third daughter along with four sisters and one brother born to Arnold and Anna Cappis. She got her education in the Bawlf school and one year at the Camrose Lutheran College graduating with a steno, bookkeeping and typing certificate. She met Roald Torpe when he used to play crib at the home café with Arnold Cappis. In 1956 she moved to Camrose to work at the Alberta Treasury Branch. Later she worked at the Credit Union as an account assistant, also at the Legion, Norseman and Feed Mill, as a mixologist. Her last job was a homemaker’s aide.


Roald and Lois married on August 1, 1958 and were blessed with four children Debra Torpe, Jacquelin Leedham, Darcy Torpe and Lisa Blok; seven grandchildren Aaron Torpe, Toni Torpe,  Daniel (Amanda) Torpe, Tristan West, Jesse and Wyatt Blok, and Cheyenne Makeleniuk; nine great-grandchildren Stone Vr’stala, and Ty, Karter, Mak and Ella Torpe, and Sianna Williams and Deacon Lewis, and Aurora and Ella Blok. 
Lois helped form the Sons of Norway Junior Lodge and was director for two years, and financial secretary 1 year. She formed the Daresbury Crib Club which operated for twenty-five years. Lois had many interests including crocheting, knitting, playing cards, bowling, reading, dancing, playing ball and sewing especially halloween costumes. She was an active member of the Sons of Norway and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for fifty years.


In 1970 Lois and Roald built their cabin at Tillicum Beach and retired there in 1990. In 2015 she moved back to Camrose. 


Lois is survived by her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters Dianne Vandervelden and Eva Cappis; and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Roald; sisters Eileen Jacobsen and Phyllis Blair; brother Allan Cappis; and her parents.

 

A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Camrose Valleyview Cemetery with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating.

 

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Lois's memory may be made to S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance, or the Stollery Children's Hospital, or to the Camrose Legion.
