 Gustav "Gus" Eddy Lange

(August 10, 1932 - April 2, 2020)

Gus Eddy Lange of Millet, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the age of 87 years.

Gus was born to John and Helene Lange, one of twelve children.  He attended Porto Bello School and later helped put up poles and lines to bring electricity to homes west of Millet.  He then worked in the stucco and plaster trade.  In 1954, he married Elfriede Hetman and in 1964, he purchased the Lange home quarter in the Porto Bello district, where he lived until his passing.

Gus was a lifelong farmer and spent his years as a faithful steward of the land.  He loved the changing of seasons, plants of every kind, and caring for animals.  Green was Gus’ favourite colour: he liked watching the crops come up, mowing grass, planting new potatoes, sweet peas, and Texas lilies.  But the ultimate green was found in John Deere machinery.

Using his leadership and talents, Gus was involved in church, 4-H and countless community endeavors.  Gus will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye, his cheerful smile, endless generosity and belief in always giving one’s best effort.  He leaves us with memories of quiet wisdom, gentle kindness, unwavering love, and deep faith.

Left to treasure his memory are: his wife of 65 years, Elfriede; sons Brent and Delbert;  daughters Esther and Larry McDonald, Teresa and Dave McDonald, Crystal and Robert Krueger;  grandchildren  Darrin, Heather, Melinda, Jennifer, Naomi, Pamela, Jill, Gus, Corey, Dakin, Marissa,  Madisyn ;  thirteen great-grandchildren;  brothers  John, Jake, Don;  and sisters Irma  and Rose.  Gus will also be remembered by numerous friends, neighbors, and others who embraced him as their “Grampa” too.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Herbert, Reinhold, Henry, Joe, and sisters Helen and Ida.

A celebration of Gus’ life was held.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Gus's memory may be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church or to the Parkinson Association of Alberta.
