Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert "Bob" Kenneth Robbins of Daysland passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at the age of 73 years. Robert "Bob" Kenneth Robbins was born January 22, 1940 to Alex and Frances Robbins in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He moved to Strome, Alberta at one year of age along with his parents and grandparents. He never did like school so he began working for farmers at a young age. His biggest interest was baseball and he began playing senior baseball at 13 years old. This was his greatest love. He loved his sports including baseball, hockey, curling, boating, hunting, and skidooing. Dancing was something he loved to do and that's where he met the love of his life. He married Doreen Larson on February 16, 1962 and to their union were born three children Brenda, Duane, and Gail. As a family, most weekends were spent at ball diamonds. Bob worked on the farm for George Borgel for several years, then moved to Round Hill for three years until moving to his own farm North of Daysland. He then sold the farm and moved to Daysland in 1976. He worked for the town for several years as town foreman, then at Manalta Coal Mine and the County of Flagstaff. Because of his love for farming he began working for Jack Moser. He spent 20 years with Jack and enjoyed operating the large equipment. In 2000, Bob and Doreen started doing the maintenance at Providence Place. In 2008, Bob had a heart attack, and was unable to continue working at Providence Place. It was at that time that Bob retired. Bob's greatest love was being with his family and especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In March, Bob's battle with cancer began and he was looked after at home in a hospital bed and passed away at home with his family which was his wish. He is survived by his wife Doreen; three children Brenda (Mike), Duane (Brenda) and Gail (Joe); eight grandchildren Chris (Amanda), Shawn (Jody), Danielle (Ben), Terri-Lynn, Chantelle (Jordan), Brittany, Ryon, and Shelby; four great-grandchildren Taylor, Adriene, Nolan and Alayna; brother Gordon (Rhoda); sister-in-law Gail; brother-in-law Lee; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins and one special Aunt Dorothy. Bob was predeceased by his parents; one brother Garry; and one sister Judy. We love you Bob and know that you are at peace now with no more suffering. A Funeral Service was held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 from the Daysland Community Hall with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Providence Place, S.T.A.R.S, or to the charity of one's choice.
