Please share a memory of Leonia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Laurie was born on January 14, 1937 and passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2013 at the age of 76 years. She grew up and attended school in the Round Hill area and married Rudy Banack on November 16, 1957. They purchased a home in Camrose in 1966 where they raised their family of four children and where Laurie resided until her passing. Family and friends were very important to Laurie. Visiting with her large extended family took up many weekends when her children were young. In later years, she enjoyed having her family for meals on as many occasions as possible. It was unheard of to have a holiday meal without cabbage rolls and perogies with mushroom sauce. She took great pride in her home and her gardens - both vegetable and flower. Many spring and summer hours were spent planning, planting and tending those gardens. Winter months were spent following the Oilers. If you needed to talk to Laurie you had to wait until the break between periods to call her because if the Oilers were playing she would not answer the phone. In her last days she was still asking what the score was. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Patti (Norm) Zunti of Camrose; three sons Richard Banack of Camrose, Brian (Susan) Banack of Camrose, and Murray Banack of Sherwood Park; six grandchildren, her great-granddaughter, and many relatives and friends. Laurie was predeceased by her mother Mary; her husband Rudy; and two infant daughters Cheryl and Leanne. A prayer vigil was held Thursday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Francis of Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Camrose Alberta with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment has taken place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Round Hill. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, or to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District.
