Audrey Mae Hitman

(December 5, 1939 - March 1, 2019)

Audrey Mae Hitman of Camrose, Alberta, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Audrey lived a full life as an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  Her whole life was dedicated to her community and she never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand.  She was a true inspiration as a foster parent for over twenty years and as a volunteer at the Camrose Food Bank and Camrose Crisis Line.  In 2015, Audrey was nominated for a provincial Minister’s Senior Citizen Award and was recognized by the City of Camrose for her contributions to the betterment of the community. 
Audrey’s true passion in life was nurturing over one hundred international students who lived with her over the last thirty years.  Countless hours were spent working on their English skills, helping with school assignments and teaching them to drive.  She enjoyed spending her winters in the arena cheering on her Japanese hockey players.  Audrey was blessed to be able to travel to many countries around the world to visit her “kids” and their families.    
 

Audrey’s favorite memories were the times spent at the cabin in British Columbia with her family.  She was also the master of scouting out treasures at garage sales, loved singing along to Burton Cummings and Neil Diamond and could play a mean game of crib. 
Most of all she adored her family and instilled strong values and traditions that have and always will be a big part of their lives. Her four grandchildren were the loves of her life.  She cherished the time that she spent as their biggest fan at dance competitions and recitals, hockey, soccer and basketball games.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her children David (Noreene and family) Hitman, Kathy (Chris) Gerritsen, Sharon Thomson, and Robin Hitman; grandchildren Kristen, Nicholas, Stephanie, and Erik; siblings Gary (Susan) Johanson and Shirley Latimer and numerous nieces and nephews.  Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Frances Johanson and brother Kenneth Johanson.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 from the Messiah Lutheran Church, 4810 - 50th Street Camrose with Pastor Bev Swanson officiating.
