Leander Joseph Jacobs was born on January 5, 1927 to parents Albert and Mary Jacobs. He was the 4th out of 9 children, the oldest son. Leander grew up on the family farm in the Spring Lake area. He completed Grade 8 at St. Leo's School. Aspiring to always want to farm, Leander left school early to help with farming. He met his wife Ellen while working during the winter in Edmonton and they were married the following summer on July 9, 1955. Leander and Ellen raised 5 children on their farm in the Spring Lake area. Leander had a passion for farming and inspired his children to find their passion in their own work and lives. Dad always loved sports, both playing and watching. One of his greatest joys was playing for the Spring Lake Baseball Team and attending the local sports days. He enjoyed years of curling, going to many bonspiels with his friends and family. Most of all Leander will be remembered for the great love he had for his family, his willingness to help whenever help was needed and his gentle but strong manner. Dad was a great father who loved children and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The winter of 1992 Leander and Ellen moved to Daysland but he never really left. The farm was always in his heart and he continued to help his son Keith farm until his recent health deterioration. Leander enjoyed the many wonderful trips with his wife and family and took pride in having travelled to so many places in his life. Leander will be deeply missed by his 4 children Keith Jacobs of Daysland, Irene (George) Ong of Sherwood Park, Cindy (Murray) Candlish of Daysland and Connie (Carl) Tywin of Edmonton; 6 grandchildren Jason Candlish (Alicia Zimmerman), Theresa (Mike) Smitten, Melanie Candlish, Krystyn Ong, Lauren Ong and Ty Jacobs; two great grandchildren Noelle Cartwright and Adam Smitten. Leander is also survived by 1 brother, 4 sisters, and numerous relatives and friends.
