Please share a memory of Steve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Steve Sawchuk of Camrose passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the age of 81 years. Steve Sawchuk was brought into the world at the Innisfree family farm on October 30, 1931. He spent his childhood years growing up on the farm near Minburn. After graduating, work led him north to Manning, where he met his wife, Francis Robertson. Steve and Francis were married within a year, and went on to start a family with the births of sons Bradley and Terrence. Together they moved and settled in to Vegreville, where they expanded their family with the addition of sons Douglas, Brent, and Cameron. Throughout his years, Steve was always very active in golf, curling, and community clubs. He was employed by Northwestern Utilities for 36 years in Vegreville, Lamont, and Camrose. After retiring, Steve and Francis were able to spend 23 enjoyable winters in Yuma, Arizona. There, Steve became quite a well-known and champion court shuffler, and the couple met many lifelong friends. Steve will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the cherished memories made in the sunshine - playing and watching sports, gardening, travelling, and enjoying his grandchildren. Steve will be greatly missed by his loving wife Francis; five sons - Bradley (Erma), Terrence (Maureen), Douglas (Susan), Brent (Mary Lou), and Cameron (Heather); 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and two surviving sisters, Kay Speirs and Ruth (Dennis) Lever. He was predeceased by his parents and 14 brothers and sisters. A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Cremation has taken place. If friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Cross Cancer Institute, or the charity of your choice.
