Rebecca Swanson of Camrose passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the age of 70 years. Rebecca "Becky" Christine Swanson was born August 10, 1943 at Lacombe, Alberta. She started school in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, moving to Cadogan, Provost, and then graduating from Hughenden, Alberta. Becky met Ron Swanson in 1960, and they were married in 1962. This union was blessed with three children Shirley, Darlene and Rodney. When the family settled in Camrose in 1979, Becky got a job at Woolworth and worked there for 23 years, retiring in 2004. Becky met many people over the years and always had time to talk. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren played a big part in her life, for any birthday or special occasion the family could be found together celebrating and sharing good times. Becky enjoyed going to Vegas whenever the opportunity was presented. She also enjoyed reading and sewing - she had a special talent, making clothes and gifts. She was diagnosed with cancer in October 2011, and fought hard against the cancer. In May 2013, with failing health, Becky was admitted to hospital, then moved to Aspen Cottage in August 2013. Becky passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ron; daughters Shirley Swanson of Camrose, and Darlene Swanson of Wetaskiwin; two grandchildren Jeanine (Jason) Broen and Michelle; five great-grandchildren Jordyn, Jenna, Kendra, Jaxon and Jayda. Becky is also survived by two brothers Terrence (Vivian) Clark of Alliance, Curtis (Elaine) Siegfried of Whitecourt; and sister Linda (Cliff) Hewitt of Sherwood Park. Becky was predeceased by her son Rodney; mother Sadie Siegfried; and sister Connie Tulloch. A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Norm Lentz officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S. or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
