Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Louise Jones of Alaska, formerly of Donalda, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2013 at the age of 80 years. Margaret Louise Jones, daughter of Knut and Hanny Collin, was born August 18th, 1932. She passed into the Lord's presence on June 28th, 2013. Margaret grew up on the family farm in the Donald area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church and at an early age, committed her life to the Lord. Margaret attended the Norbo country school with her siblings, took her grades 1-9 there, followed by high school at Camrose Lutheran College. Whatever the job, it was done to the best of her abilities and this showed in her achievements at school. Following this, Margaret was accepted into the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing in Edmonton, graduating with her R.N. in 1955. She did some research and acquired a job at the Methodist Mission Hospital in Nome, Alaska. Her caring nature, thoroughness and love of her job, made her a compassionate and competent nurse. It was in Nome that she met her future husband, Roland Jones, who was with the U.S. Air Force. They became engaged and returned to the Donalda area to be married on Oct. 14th, 1957. Roland was stationed at various Air Force bases, and the next years found them living in several U.S. States. During this time, their three daughters, Cheryl, Kimberly and Lisa, were born. Eventually they moved back to Alaska and bought property on East Mackey Lake near Soldotna. Here they built a lovely home and enjoyed the country living with the wildlife and flowers surrounding them. Margaret worked for several years at Soldotna Hospital. She loved traveling and a highlight was a trip with World Vision to Africa. Especially in her later years, Margaret spent a lot of time reading and studying God's word. Her roots were deep in her home community and it was her wish to be laid to rest at the Bethany Church Cemetery. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Roland; daughters Cheryl, Kimberly and Lisa (Tim); grandchildren Michael, Ryan Jared, Brittany, Conrad, Tiffany, Nicholas and Natasha. Also surviving are two sisters Doris (Norman) Radke, Florence Johnson; one brother Harry (Anna) Collin and a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; an infant sister; and brother Robert. A Graveside Service was held 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2013 at Donalda Bethany Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Vincent Eriksson officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Donalda Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, or to the charity of one's choice.
