Please share a memory of Kay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kay was born on May 8, 1936 in Calgary, Alberta. She passed away peacefully on July 7, 2013 at the age of 77 years in the University of Alberta Hospital with her family by her side. She lived in the Edberg area with her parents, Harold (Slim) and Violet Shoults and two sisters, Myrna and Delores. She grew up on the farm and attended the Edberg School. Kay married Kenneth Thompson on July 6, 1956. They farmed in the Edberg area for many years, where they raised their three children, Valerie, Darcy and Tracy. Kay worked hard on the farm and also worked at various restaurants and hotels throughout the years. She was also an active member of the community. Ken and Kay retired and continued living on the farm until the fall of 2011 when they moved to Camrose. Kay loved her family and her friends. She was an amazing cook and fabulous baker. She picked saskatoons and strawberries by hand so that she could make pies for friends and relatives. She made delicious home made buns and cinnamon buns. She loved to camp, whether at the Ponoka Rodeo or her favorite spot at Wetaskiwin. Her hobbies were playing crib, rummy, bingo and going to the casino with Ken and her companions. Kay was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbour. She thought of everyone else before herself. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Ken of 57 years; daughter Valerie (Dale); son Darcy (Doreen); daughter Tracy (Jason); eight grandchildren Shannon, Sabrina, Melissa, Colby, Travis, Dallas, Jazmyne and Jevlynn, five great-grand children Cailey, Brooklyn, Kyle, Faith, Isabella; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the Messiah Lutheran Church (4810 50 Street, Camrose) with Rev. Ken Grambo officiating. Interment has taken place in the Ferry Point Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, Ferry Point Cemtery, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
