Leonard "John" Furniss of Camrose passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Leonard "John" Furniss was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan December 2, 1933 to Charles and Dorothy Furniss. John grew up with his two younger siblings Elaine and Michael. He went to school in North Battleford and later moved to Edmonton, Alberta to start his career with the Canadian National Railways (Signal Department). He married Shirley Marie Rehn in 1955 and together they had six children Jim, Cheryl, Karen, infant son, Brenda and Leonard. He had a passion for sports card collecting. His other hobbies included Sport Select (Proline), horse racing, gardening, and NHL hockey. He retired in 1989 after 39 years of service. John was predeceased by his two daughters Cheryl and Brenda; an infant son; his parents Charles and Dorothy; and sister Elaine. John is survived by his loving wife Shirley; sons Jim (Linda) and Leonard; daughter Karen; grandchildren Sean, Taylor, and Julie; and great-granddaughter Hanna. John is also survived by his special friend Jayvin. A Funeral Service was held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from Camrose United Church with Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Lung Association or to the charity of one's choice.
