Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Douglas "Doug" Curry of Camrose, Ab., passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 58 years. Doug was born on September 24, 1954 in Camrose to parents Howard and Mary Curry, he was the youngest of nine children. He passed away peacefully at the Louise Jensen Center on Saturday May 18th, 2013 at the age of 58 years. Doug met and married Carol Wancho in 1979 and to this union Doug welcomed Carol's four children Donna, Debbie, Joe and Jo Ann. Doug and Carol made their home on a farm near Round Hill. Doug earned his Red Seal in cooking and applied his skills at Rosehaven Care Center. Doug was very meticulous about his cooking and took pride in all meals he made. Doug retired from Rosehaven after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in December of 1984. Doug worked for a short time at Stelco before he and Carol took over the restaurant at the Windsor Hotel. Doug and Carol enjoyed their time cooking together and visiting with their customers and friends. Doug was very proud of his family. He told many stories of his duck hunting excursions with his father and brothers. Doug would get particularly excited when he and Carol hosted trap shoots for the family at the farm. Doug enjoyed hearing news of his family and attending his granddaughter's wedding or being a great-great uncle to a set of triplets. He looked forward to visits from Joan and Ralph as they kept him well stocked in candy. Doug loved when Howard and Gail visited as he was never short of Calgary flames memorabilia (more to "rub" Neil with) and a confirmed dinner of KFC. Doug always claimed that Humpty's made the best steak and eggs and he always seized the opportunity during breakfast to check in with Donna and Neil and on how his children were doing. Doug was always ready with a kind word or advice. He looked forward when old friends came to visit from viewpoint and to have an alliance with Ken and Helen at Louise Jensen to complain about the food being served. Doug loved music especially Elvis and also became a Shania Twain fan. Doug's favourite past time was to have a cold beer, a cigarette and company of good friends. Doug's battle with Multiple Sclerosis was a long journey. He entered Norbo Long term care Center on July 11, 1999. He resided at Norbo long term Care Center until April 05, 2005 when he moved into a new facility; Viewpoint assisted living. He remained there until his health status changed, and he was transferred to Viking extended care for three months before entering Louise Jensen in January 15, 2007. Doug devoted some of his time at Louise Jensen to attending MS meetings with Pastor Norm. Doug found great comfort in Pastor Norm's Support. Doug encountered many peaks and valleys throughout his journey with MS. This past year Doug was plagued with many health issues associated with MS. Doug never gave up hope for a cure and faced his battles courageously while maintaining his sarcasm and sense of humour. Left to cherish his memory are his children Donna (Neil) Lehman, Debbie Marcinkoski, Joe Berget (Vance), Jo Ann (Randy) Yaremovich; two sisters Joan (Ralph) Schierman and Gail (Howard) Witty; three sisters-in-law Marion (Terry) Stewart, Betty Curry and Eunice Odland; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents Howard and Mary; his wife Carol; four brothers Daryl, Laverne, Jim, Donnie; and two sisters Florence and Alma. Doug you will be greatly missed, but we understand: A soul can only fight so long before it tires. Rest peacefully. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2012 at 11:00am., from The Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Norm Lentz officiating. Inurment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The M.S. Society, or to a charity of your choice.
