Walter Pringle of Camrose passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the age of 78 years. Walter was born on October 20, 1934 in Port Huron, Michigan, the only child of Cecil and Fern Pringle. He had a happy childhood living on his family's wooded acreage outside of Port Huron, attending country school, exploring the woods with his dog, and playing baseball with his friends. He grew up enjoying athletics and participated in baseball, football, track and field and boxing. His mother remembered him playing in three baseball leagues at the same time one summer. He was mentored by a coach in a Methodist youth sports program. He studied two years of pre-engineering before serving in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 as a Specialist Third Class. While in the army he became an assistant to a Church of God chaplain who encouraged him to attend Anderson College. He also attended Adrian College and Wayne State University in Michigan where he received his Master's degree in Educational Guidance and Counseling. While at Anderson he met and married Jacqueline Schieck. He taught Junior High Mathematics in East Detroit, Michigan for six years and three years at an International Boarding School in Kodaikanal India. Over the years he kept in touch with many of his former students and teaching colleagues. On returning to Michigan in 1970 his son, Gregory Alan Pringle was born. Walter taught school for another seven years before moving the family to Camrose to join Mina Schieck in her retail business and later becoming a Canadian citizen. Walt was a loving father and husband who always looked forward to spending time with his son and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, fishing and photography. Some of his favourite memories were fly fishing in belly boats with Nelson Schieck near Kelowna. He learned to tie flies and make fly rods, spending many hours enjoying his new hobby. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; son Gregory; daughter-in-law Lori (Perrault); grandsons Connor and Quinn; sister-in-law Elaina Firestone; niece Jamai Moltzahn; nephew Maxwell Moltzahn; great-niece Jordan Moltzahn; and an uncle and numerous cousins in Michigan. A Funeral Service was held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 from Camrose Church of God with Rev. Brian Krushel officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Sahakarini (Box 1685 Camrose, Alberta T4V 1X6) or to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation.
