Obituary of Roger Parent

Roger Gerard Parent of Camrose, formerly of Stony Plain, Lac La Biche and Edmonton, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at the age of 66 years. Roger Gerard Parent passed away suddenly at home on May 6, 2013 at the age of 66. Roger was born April 24, 1947 in Lac La Biche, Alberta. He was the third in a family of six children. He grew up in Breynat area, and later moved to Lac La Biche to complete his high school diploma. From high school he attended the University of Alberta and obtained his degree in Education. He met his wife Jeanette in Edmonton on a blind date and were married on December 18, 1971. They had two children together, Rochelle and Philip, and raised their family in the Stony Plain area. They later moved to Edmonton, and then back to Lac La Biche where they had a cabin by the lake. In 2012 they packed up once more and settled in Camrose. He taught at various schools through out his career. He started teaching in Lac La Biche and then moved to H. E. Beriault, and then taught at St. Benedicts where he retired from in 2003 after being there for several years. After retirement Roger still looking for a challenge, took himself and his wife to China for a year where they taught English. Roger could always be found reading books, sitting by a campfire, or doing both. He was also very skilled in any type of renovation project and always seemed to have a couple ideas on the go. He had knowledge in almost every area of construction from woodworking to electrical. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Roger is predeceased by his father Jacques. Roger is survived by his wife Jeanette of 41 years. His children Rochelle (Jay) of Phoenix, AZ and Phil (Shannon) of Calgary, AB; his three grandchildren Will, Lizzie,and Sammy; his mother Gladys of Edmonton; and his sibilings Marie (Egon), Jackie (Bill), Clara (Ray), Denise (Robin) and Henri (Sandra). A funeral service was held on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Grambo officiating. Inurnment followed in the Camrose Cemetery.
