Ted Boden passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 8, 2013, at the Louise Jensen Care Center in Camrose, Alberta at the age of 83 years. Ted was born on June 12, 1929 in Oldenburg. Germany, to John and Frieda Boden. Ted came to Canada by ship in 1930, with his parents and siblings Bob and Heinz where they settled on a farm near Esther, AB. Ted finished his grade eleven at 17 years old and then started doing custom combining and trucking with his brothers. In 1946, the John Boden family moved to a farm eight miles east of Edberg. Through the fifties Ted hauled gravel and in 1960 married the love of his life, Florence Lohr. In 1961, Ted and Florence moved to their own homestead just outside of Edberg and started their family with the arrival of Shirley in September 1961 and continued on with Dennis in September 1962 and Sharon in September 1963. Ted farmed with his brother Heinz from 1970 until 1983 when at this time Ted started gravel hauling. In 1996, Ted and Florence moved to their home in Camrose, where he resided until moving January 2013 into the Louise Jensen Care Center. Ted was an accomplished pilot, enjoyed playing bingo, and going to Zellers for breakfast with Florence and the coffee crew. He loved watching and attending rodeos and had season tickets for the CFR. In his later years, Ted remained active with the gravel crushing, by picking up parts or whatever was needed and delivering them daily to the pit. He loved watching the crusher work. Ted was blessed with six grandchildren; Emily (Logan), Jesse, Dylan, Caitlyn, Hillary and Brandon. Grandpa Boden thought the world of his grandkids and often spoke of them. He survived by his lovely wife, Florence; his children Shirley (Les) Erickson, Dennis (Karen) Boden and Sharon (Jeff) Banack; and his grandchildren; his brother Heinz (Dorthy) Boden; sisters Irma (Norman) Henderson, Frieda (Cameron) Thompson; sister-in-law Florence Boden; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Ted was predeceased by his parents John and Frieda Boden and brother Bob, parents-in-law Clyde and Edith Lohr, sister-in-law Leona Bendfeld and numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral service was held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Ken Grambo officiating. Interment has taken place in the Edberg Lakeview Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Edberg Cemetery Fund.
