Obituary of John "Jack" Young

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jack was born in Winfield, Alberta on October 27, 1926 to Sadie and Edward Young. His Grandparents were pioneer settlers in the area so he and his brother Edward worked on the family farm with the family that included his Grandparents on his Mother's side. In 1955 Jack and his brother, Ed, moved to Camrose to play guitar on the "new" radio station CFCW. They both eventually acquired jobs at Rosehaven which is where Jack worked until his retirement. Jack met his first wife Leona at work and they were married and adopted two children, Julie and Terry, in the 1960s. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as fishing, music, animals and good eating. Saturdays were spent fishing at the lakes around Camrose with his growing family. He played the guitar all his life and dabbled with other instruments over the years. He was remarried in the 1990s to Eleanor Reid and they had a very active social life in Camrose having coffee at McDonalds several times a week and playing games and attending social events with friends. Jack moved to Viewpoint after Eleanor's passing and scootered to every event in Camrose. He rarely missed the Saturday morning farmers market, church services, a parade, or the Camrose Opry. His favorite activities were fishing at the little trout pond outside of town with his daughter and her family and keeping company with his special friend Alice. He was very social and lived for the music and the people. Jack passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on April 18, 2012. He was predeceased by his parents Sadie and Ed Young; his brother Ed; and his wife Eleanor. He is survived by his son Terry; daughter Julie and her partner Jim; and his grandchildren Kory, Katie, Keenan, Desiree & Dawson. He leaves a legacy of kindness. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 1:00pm., from The Camrose United Church with Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Cremation has taken place. If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Scoliosis Research Society, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
